Sicilia 2014

Exactly 1533 km is behind us. We made a practical circle around Sicily, of course due to the time it is not possible to see everything in 14 days. Trapani, Erice, Marsala, Agrigento, Ragusa, Modica, Noto, Syracuse, Giardini Naxos, Taormina, Mount Etna, Etnaland, Cefalu, San Vito Lo Capo was our route. We ended our lap over a coffee in Erice and not least when I returned the car to the airport.


And what are our impressions ... very positive. Sicily is special, people are tough, they may seem unfriendly and hard to reach at first, but they open up quickly. They really have serious problems with English, in some places they don't even try, they just say "solo italiano" and then we try with broken Italian, hands and so on. There are sweet things everywhere, sweet breakfasts, almonds everywhere, pistachios, melons, there is a huge amount of vegetables, although we did not eat excessively outside, as we rationally preferred to cook on our own when we had the opportunity. Our “picnics” on the bed with tramezzini, prosciutto, cheese, beers on the balconies and terraces, all had a special charm.


Sicily is beautiful, mountainous, in some places severely dirty, and in some places it is interesting how they have "harvested" and arranged plantations of oranges, melons, grapes, etc. Big cities can be tiring, they drive really wild and you have to be very careful not to let a "guy" with half of the driving school run into you. The rule of the right is the theory here, in practice it sometimes looks much different. The beaches are practically everywhere, in some places exclusively tourist ones, but there are a lot of sandy corners when we were almost alone and no crowds. Beautiful sunsets, 14 days of temperatures between 28 and 33 degrees will be written in our memory, a beautiful memory. Dolce far niente is at home here, we tried to “do” exactly that, even though we saw and experienced a lot.
