Kefalonia 2021

After a year and a half of closures, restrictions, intimidation, completely missed communications, we just waited for the plane trip. The destination had to be chosen relatively wisely, given the conditions of entry and the situation at the “covid traffic light”, so that, like most, Greece was the choice this time.

We had 15 days of sunshine, temperatures ranging from 30 to even 47 degrees. Greece is always good, the food is great, although Greek portions are not exactly “tender”, prices are solid, people are friendly. Unfortunately, here too, covid leaves irreparable consequences, as quite a few bars will probably never open their doors again. Everywhere we went, we unfortunately saw closed and abandoned bars. It was not allowed to eat inside, only outside, masks everywhere inside the mandatory, but this is not a problem at all. People are disciplined, we were practically nowhere in any crowd. It's probably not what it used to be, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Less crowded is definitely friendly and more relaxed.

Kefalonia, the wish according to the testimonies is finally fulfilled. What are your impressions? The island in the middle is relatively barren, the roads are ok, but there are miles of slopes and valleys. Even though you’re everywhere within an hour or a little more, it’s dragging. But everywhere you are along the coast, there are huge hidden beaches. We did practically everything as a “must see”, Argostoli and turtles, Fiskardo, Assos, Myrtos beach, Sami and Antisamos beach, almost came to Mount Ainos, visited the neighboring island, Ithaca, and also had plenty of time to rest and laze. . That is the essence of leave after all.

Below the line like this, Kefalonia is to be seen, but 14 days may be too much. For an active and dynamic vacation, with a little lounging, this is a destination for 7-10 days. We also missed perhaps a more idyllic village or. city, in this respect Crete is still unsurpassed. For example, Chania in Crete or the city of Corfu with the Venetian fortress has a soul and alleys that I did not find anywhere here. Myrtos beach is really beautiful, but Balos in Crete and kaka in Crete is also top notch.

Good thing Greece still has a huge number of islands and there will still be food, one day soon again dancing hope and blue sea and beautiful beaches. Grateful that we succeeded and we hope to gather dust again soon, without masks, tests and restrictions.
